Project Runway and the 2008 Illinois Library Association Annual Conference in Chicago
 

FASHION DESIGNERS WANTED!  NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.

Channel your inner fashionista and be a part of this exciting event that's debuting at the 2008 Illinois Library Association Annual Conference in Chicago.

Submit an official entry form with a sketch and description of an original library-inspired fashion or fashion accessory (hat, tie, purse, etc.) to enter. The top fashions will be unveiled on the runway at the "Style from the Stacks" Fashion Show at the Chicago City Centre Hotel on Thursday, September 25th, 2008 at 8:00 pm as part of the ILA President's Event. The show will be hosted by Steven Rosengard from Project Runway: Season 4.

You may choose from one of these categories for inspiration:
1. Creative use of library materials (microfilm, discarded books, paperclips, etc.)
2. Literature-inspired (Mother Goose to Edgar Allan Poe, anything goes!)
3. Libraries of the future
4. Other (let your imagination run wild!)


RULES:

-Entries may be submitted as a group.
-Participants may submit more than one design.
-Participants must be affiliated with an Illinois library or attending a graduate program in library science in Illinois.
-Chosen designers will provide the supplies for their finished outfit.
-Chosen designers will provide a model for the fashion show.

The chosen designers will be notified by July 25, 2008 or earlier. Cultural Tour of the Milan Fashion Business

A Cultural Tour of the Milan fashion business
Monday 30th June - Friday 4th July 2008 (10am - 4pm), 5 days / 25 hours

Course Description

An intensive five day program for advanced students, graduates and young professionals that explores the Italian fashion business and its relationship with cutting edge art and design and the sourcing of trends and ideas that will inspire the new generation of artists and designers.

Domus Academy is an elite graduate school of design, fashion, architecture and business founded in 1982 with an outstanding reputation for high-quality teaching that will use the expertise of full time tutors and visiting lecturers to help you achieve maximum benefit from this special course.

This course proposes to discover the unique mood that characterizes Milan as the cradle of Italian design and fashion. Milan is a dynamic, eclectic and competitive city both in terms of creativity and innovation. The lectures will be held by experts in architecture, interior design, product design, fashion design and fashion trends, as well as those working in the world of the arts, communication, advertising and marketing, both managers and entrepreneurs. During these busy days you will visit museums, fashion shops and showrooms, and you will visit design studios, fashion and design companies, galleries and exhibitions, and famous locations which run the ritual of the Milanese aperitif. This course will be a unique chance to discover Milan, a city that exists between glamour and understatement with many exciting gems hidden away from the usual tourist trail. You will see Milan, through a privileged insight, as a source of inspiration, exploring the culture that will be significant in global trends, making informed artistic choices and researching current and future markets.

• The power of fashion in the arts world
• Visits to studios, factories, fashion stores and museums
