Membership Meeting continued from page 1
Melissa spoke of her self-chosen “mantra.” This, she explained, was to “Identify, advise, and assist.” Her objectives in this new role include identifying the needs of various members of the fashion community in Chicago , bringing designers and business students together, and building a Chicago fashion website. This website will bring together people from different aspects of fashion to work together for individual needs, including information on how to finance a business.

As Chicago becomes analogous to New York , though for younger, private designers, I predict that groups such as the Chicago Fashion Foundation will be the must-have-membership for the fashion elite of the Chicago area. Chicago ’s fashion community may expand exponentially over the years, but the direction that it is going to serve a niche market of fashion designers who have “unique designs” that are created on a much smaller scale.” As Ms. Turner puts it, “ Chicago is not New York or Los Angeles , it is entrepreneurs.”
